Swim Team Frequently Asked Questions

When are tryouts? The exact date is not set, but is generally sometime during the first half of February.

What is the workout commitment? Depending on the workout group you are placed in, the commitment is 2-4 mornings and all afternoons per week.  Workouts are either in the pool or in the weight room.

What is the meet schedule like
? The meets generally start at 3:30 and end close to 5:30 or 6:00.  Last season they fell mostly on Tuesdays.  Some weekend meets were also on the schedule.

What is the volunteering commitment from the parents? Parents are asked to provide two morning hot breakfasts per season and there are also timing opportunities at every home meet as well as helping at the gate, snack bar, and the bi-annual clean up days.

What is the cost?  Booster club dues are $225.00.  There is also a required uniform as well as extra items which can be purchased.  Booster club members receive a substantial discount on all uniform/extra items as well as a free banquet ticket for the athlete and discounted tickets for family members.

What is the Booster Club? The Newport Harbor High School Aquatics Booster Club is a parent volunteer organization.  The collective purpose is to give support to the athletes and coaches of the aquatics program throughout their training and competitive seasons. This past year a variety of needs were met through the Booster's funds.  While Booster membership is not mandatory, it is critical to maintaining our program's elite level that is a Newport tradition.
